Have you ever admired our Class 6 doorway with its curriculum-specific Roman arch and mosaic work? We shared the concept with the Ohio Arts Council
, and they loved the work enough to award our school a grant to enrich each of our main lesson doorways!
The grant also provides funding to hire an artist to do this work with our grades 1-8 students. Please join us in welcoming our new Artist in Residence, Sarah McMahon! Sarah has a BA in Studio Art from Hiram College and an MA in Fiber Arts from Kent State where she currently teaches part time.
Sarah, in collaboration with mentor Royse Crall and our faculty, will plan and create the doorway art to reflect an aspect of each grade’s curriculum while using Waldorf aesthetics. Students will be guided by Sarah to help in this work in a developmentally appropriate manner during the school day.
The Ohio Arts Council
has also granted funds for Sarah to help create and manage a mural project in Akron’s Elizabeth Park through a partnership with the Akron Parks Collaborative
. We will share more information soon on how our students and the whole community can be involved in this creative and fun service work.
A sincere thank you to these organizations for making this amazing art work happen!
