The Waldorf Difference Award

The Waldorf Difference Award

This year’s recipient of the Waldorf Difference Award is Alena Veigl!

The Waldorf Difference Award is given to an alumnus who has made a difference and brought about positive change in the world. This year, we are honoring Akron native and Biomedical Engineer, Alena Veigl, for contributing her gifts in STEM and beyond to the Akron community.

Alena graduated from Spring Garden Waldorf School in 2011 and attended High School at Firestone CLC where she was active in music and science — reaching the State Championship level for her science fair projects. From there, Alena was granted an academic scholarship to attend The University of Akron, where she received her degree in Biomedical Engineering. She now works in her field in Dayton, OH., at UES Inc., a United States Air Force contracting company.

Alena says, “I love music, but using science and math to help people is my passion.”

This is why, throughout Alena’s time at Akron, she served as fundraising chair for the Engineering Service Design Team, which designs and builds solutions for local nonprofit organizations. She was also a volunteer with the Autism Society of the Greater Akron Area.

Alena remembers her time at Spring Garden Waldorf School as supportive and formative: “I know I would not be where I am today without the knowledge, love, and support I received from my time at Spring Garden, and I will always be grateful.”

We are pleased to honor Alena Veigl at this year’s Spring Garden Annual Auction Benefit
